Officer Indicted for Perjury

For Immediate Release: Thursday, August 7, 2014

This afternoon, a Montgomery County grand jury indicted a Montgomery County police officer with one count of perjury. The officer is being identified as Officer Colin W. O'Brien. He has been suspended with pay since June 5. He will remain in that status through adjudication.

On February 3, 2014, Officer Colin O'Brien testified in a drug paraphernalia trial in district court. A complaint arose concerning the accuracy of his testimony and detectives from the 1st District Investigative Section were assigned to investigate the allegation. The evidence from the investigation was presented to the grand jury and they returned an indictment today.

A trial date has not been set. Perjury is a misdemeanor and carries a maximum sentence of 10 years.

Officer O'Brien was hired on July 14, 2008 and is assigned to the 3rd District.
