Juvenile Arrested for Armed Robbery in Germantown

For Immediate Release: Thursday, August 14, 2014

Officers from the 5th District- Community Action Team have arrested a 15-year-old male from Rockville for armed robbery.

On Tuesday, August 12 at approximately 6:20 p.m., officers from the 5th District responded to the area of Waring Station Road and Middlebrook Road for the report of an armed robbery that had just occurred.

Officers spoke with the 51-year-old victim who stated that he was riding his bicycle on Waring Station Road near Middlebrook Road.  The juvenile suspect, who had been hiding behind trees, jumped in front of the victim and stood on the sidewalk.  The suspect was then joined by three black male suspects.  While one suspect held onto the victim's bicycle handlebars, the 15-year-old suspect (who has been arrested), produced a handgun from under his shirt and pressed it into the victim's side.  The 15-year-old suspect then demanded the victim's money and began to remove property from the victim's person and backpack.  The four suspects then fled on foot.

The victim was able to provide a description of the 15-year-old suspect and officers began to look for him.  Officers located the suspect walking in the area of Stoney Bottom Lane and Waring Station Road and attempted to stop him.  The suspect fled from the officers but was apprehended after a foot pursuit through a wooded area and underground drainage system.  The gun was not located.

The juvenile was charged with armed robbery and is currently in the custody of the Alfred D. Noyes Children's Center in Rockville.

The three other suspects have not been identified.  Anyone with information about this armed robbery or the suspects involved is asked to call the 5th District Investigative Section at 240-773-6237.
