Police Investigate Fatal Collision in Silver Spring

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a now fatal collision that occurred last week in Silver Spring.

On August 14, at approximately 5:53 p.m., 3rd District officers and Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Columbia Pike and Stewart Lane for a report of a personal injury collision.

Investigation revealed that a 2009 Toyota Camry and a 2004 Suzuki Intruder motorcycle were slowing for traffic while traveling northbound on Columbia Pike.  A 2010 Toyota Prius was also traveling northbound on Columbia Pike but failed to stop in time and struck the rear of the motorcycle causing the motorcycle to strike the Toyota Camry.  The operator of the motorcycle was ejected off the bike.

The motorcycle operator sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to Medstar Hospital.  He succumbed to his injuries on August 20.  No other parties involved in the collision were injured.

The driver of the Suzuki Intruder has been identified as Mark Charles Eckl, age 57, of the 1500 block of W. Lombard Street in Baltimore.

The driver of the Toyota Prius has been identified as Niklaas Derk Hickman, age 35, of the 8400 block of Charmed Days in Laurel.

The driver of the Toyota Camry has been identified as Delicia Elvira Moore, age 51, of the 3400 block of Castle Way in Silver Spring.
