Police Investigate Germantown Fatal Collision

Detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal collision that occurred Sunday evening in Germantown.

On Sunday, August 24, 2014 at approximately 6:23 p.m., 6th District officers and Fire/Rescue units responded to a personal injury collision in the 11000 block of Brink Road near Treva Court. Arriving officers observed a silver Infiniti QX4 overturned and a black 1996 Harley Davidson Road King off the road. The 52-year-old male motorcycle operator was located in the wooded area adjacent to the roadway. He was unconscious and Fire/Rescue units pronounced him deceased. The driver of the Infiniti was transported to Suburban Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Preliminary investigation indicates the Infiniti was travelling eastbound on Brink Road. For reasons still under investigation, the Infiniti crossed the double yellow lane markings, traveled into the westbound lanes, and struck the Harley Davidson, which was travelling westbound on Brink Road. Due to the collision the operator of the motorcycle was separated from the motorcycle.

The driver of the black, 1996 Harley Davidson Road King has been identified as 52-year-old Kevin Roger Kanke of the 20400 block of Lindos Court in Montgomery Village. The driver of the Infiniti QX4 has been identified as 34-year-old Juan Salvador Morales Duarte of Clopper Road in Gaithersburg.
