Fatal Motorcycle Collision on River Road in Potomac

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department-Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal motorcycle collision that occurred this afternoon in Potomac.

At approximately 3:53 p.m., officers and Montgomery County Fire&Rescue responded to River Road at Rivers Edge Drive for a collision.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2014 Honda NC700 motorcycle was traveling south on River Road and a 2011 BMW X5 (an SUV) was traveling north on River Road. The BMW attempted to make a left turn onto Rivers Edge Drive and collided with the motorcycle. Witnesses to the collision stopped and administered first aid to the motorcyclist. He was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The operator of the BMW was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The motorcyclist is being identified as Navdeep Singh Kang, age 25, of the 1600 block of Blackburn Heights in Sewickley, Pennsylvania. The driver of the SUV is being identified as Ritula Bhutani Mehndiratta, age 46, of the 10000 block of Abbey Drive in Potomac.
