Fatal Collision in Olney

For Immediate Release: Monday, September 29, 2014

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department-Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal collision that occurred this morning in Olney.

At approximately 5:29 a.m., officers and Montgomery County Fire&Rescue responded to a personal injury collision on Olney-Laytonsville Road (Route 108) at Volunteer Drive (Volunteer Drive is the road that leads to OBGC Community Park).

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2001 Ford F250 pickup truck was traveling west on Olney-Laytonsville Road.  A 2010 Toyota RAV4 was traveling east on Olney-Laytsonville Road.

For reasons still under investigation, the Ford pickup truck drifted off the roadway and then corrected back onto the roadway.  The Ford then crossed the double yellow lane markings and struck the Toyota in the eastbound lanes of Route 108.

The driver of the Toyota was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.   She is being identified as Leanna L. Muller, age 51, of the 5800 block of Griffith Road in Laytonsville.  She was wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the Ford was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  He is being identified as Kenneth James Turner, Jr., age 25, of the 10700 block of Senedo Road in Mount Jackson, Virginia.  Investigation revealed that during the overnight hours, Turner had had been paving a road as an employee of the Francis O Day Company.  At the time of the collision, Turner was en route to the following night's work site to drop off equipment.  The vehicle that Turner was driving at the time of the collision is registered to Francis O Day Company.

Drugs and/or alcohol do not appear to be factors in this collision.
