Detectives Continue to Investigate Sexual Offenses Committed by Montgomery County Public School Substitute Teacher, Jose Pineda. Victims and Witnesses Urged to Come Forward to Police

Detectives from the Special Victims Investigations Division continue to investigate sexual offenses committed by Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) substitute teacher, Jose Pineda, age 50, of the 9100 block of Bramble Bush Court in Gaithersburg.  Detectives believe that there may be additional victims and are urging possible victims and witnesses to come forward with information.  The investigation thus far has revealed:

  • In early October, detectives from the Special Victims Investigations Division began investigating the report that Jose Pineda, in his role as a MCPS substitute teacher, inappropriately touched a female student at Roberto Clemente Middle School in September of 2014.  On October 14, Pineda was charged with one count of third degree sex offense and one count of sex abuse of a minor.
  • Since that time, three more victims have come forward to police; these three female victims were also students.  On November 19, Pineda was charged with three additional counts of third degree sex offense and three counts of sex abuse of a minor.
  • Nine other female students have come forward to detectives and reported that Pineda touched them during the school day.  Although these nine acts do not rise to the level of criminal violations, these students' accounts have deepened this investigation as the students are valuable witnesses.

  • 9 Student Witnesses

    • All incidents occurred in 2014
    • 6 incidents occurred at Ridgeview Middle School
    • 3 incidents occurred at Gaithersburg Elementary School
  • Pineda worked for MCPS during the following time periods:

    •  2000 - 2003,  School Bus Operator
    •  2003 - 2006,  Substitute Teacher
    •  March 2013 - September 2014,  Substitute Teacher
  • Schools where Pineda worked as a substitute teacher from November of 2013 through September of 2014 according to MCPS records (schools in no particular order):

    • Twinbrook Elementary School (Rockville)
    • Ridgeview Middle School (Gaithersburg)
    • Earle B. Wood Middle School (Rockville)
    • Montgomery Blair High School (Silver Spring)
    • Seneca Valley High School (Germantown)
    • Gaithersburg High School
    • Rosa Parks Middle School (Olney)
    • Watkins Mill High School (Gaithersburg)
    • Gaithersburg Middle School
    • Forest Oak Middle School (Gaithersburg)
    • Goshen Elementary School (Gaithersburg)
    • Roberto W. Clemente Middle School (Germantown)
    • Maryvale Elementary School (Rockville)
    • Clopper Mill Elementary School (Germantown)
    • Julius West Middle School (Rockville)
    • Gaithersburg Elementary School
    • Parkland Magnet Middle School (Rockville)
    • Longview School (Germantown)
    • Lakelands Park Middle School (Gaithersburg)
    • Rockville High School
  • Pineda taught approximately 111 days during this above time frame (November of 2013 through September of 2014).  He taught a variety of grades at the elementary, middle, and high school levels and taught subjects to include English, math, science, biology, computer science, technology, special education classes, and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes.

Police believe that there may be additional victims.  Detectives are urging anyone with information about Jose Pineda or a possible victim to please call the Special Victims Investigations Division at 240-773-5400.
