For Immediate Release: Tuesday, December 9, 2014

Detectives from the 6th District Investigative Section are investigating two burglaries that occurred at the J Cigar store in Lakeforest Mall (701 Russell Avenue) in Gaithersburg. Officers have obtained a surveillance photograph of a suspect and are asking for the public’s help in identifying him.

On November 5 at approximately 1:00 p.m., an employee from the J Cigar store in Lakeforest Mall closed the business for a short period of time. The employee exited the store and closed and locked the metal, pull-down gate. During the time that the employee was gone from the store, the suspect broke the gate lock, entered the store, and stole over $5,000 worth of tobacco products. Surveillance cameras recorded the suspect.

On November 7 at approximately 8:20 a.m., while the J Cigar store was closed, a suspect attempted to break the lock on the store gate. The suspect was interrupted by mall security and fled from the area before police arrived to the mall.

Detectives believe that the same suspect is responsible for the burglary and attempted burglary of the J Cigar store.   The suspect is described as a white male, with short brown hair and a short beard. He was carrying a backpack.

Investigators are asking anyone who recognizes this suspect or has information about these burglaries to please call the 6th District Investigative Section at : 240-773-5770.
