Wheaton Fatal Collision Investigation

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, December 10, 2014

Detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal collision that occurred earlier today.

This morning at approximately 10:23 a.m. officers from the 4th District along with Montgomery County Fire/Rescue responded to a serious personal injury collision on Georgia Avenue in the area of Janet Road. Once on the scene it was determined the collision involved two vehicles resulting in one fatality.

Preliminary Investigation revealed that a Cadillac and a stake body work truck were traveling northbound on Georgia Avenue south of Janet Road. For reasons still under investigation, the Cadillac struck the rear of the truck then left the roadway crossing the median coming to rest in the southbound lanes of Georgia Avenue.  The driver of the Cadillac died as a result of the collision.

The identities of the drivers from both vehicles are not being released at this time. The decedent is described as a 72 year old male. More details are forthcoming to include the identity of the decedent once the next-of-kin has been notified.
