Update: Wheaton Fatal Collision

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department-Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) continue to investigate a fatal collision that occurred this morning.

At approximately 10:23 a.m., officers and Fire&Rescue personnel responded to a personal injury collision on Georgia Avenue just north of Hathaway Drive.  Emergency responders located two vehicles that had been involved in the collision: a 2014 Cadillac CTS and a 2004 GMC C4500 truck.  Fire&Rescue personnel attempted life-saving measures on the driver of the Cadillac but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the collision.  The driver of the GMC truck was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary investigation indicates that in the area of northbound Georgia Avenue at Hathaway Drive, the Cadillac rear-ended the GMC truck. The force of the collision caused the Cadillac to travel and come to a rest into the southbound lanes of Georgia Avenue.

The driver of the GMC truck is identified as Emelvin Eliud Soto Alvarez, age 33, of Hyattsville, Maryland.

The deceased driver of the Cadillac is identified as Charles Gibson, age 72, of Montvale Drive in Silver Spring.
