Update: Suspect Involved in Amber Alert Charged

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, January 28, 2015

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Special Victims Investigations Division have arrested and charged Deare Marquise Denny, age 26, of Hyattsville, Maryland, with first degree assault, second degree assault, possession of a handgun in a vehicle, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony/crime of violence, reckless endangerment, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, abduction by a relative, and hiding a child within the state.

Yesterday at approximately 3:15 p.m., Deare Denny forcefully took his child, 5 month-old Drew Denny, from her mother’s home located in the 19000 block of Hempstone Avenue in Poolesville, Maryland.  Deare Denny punched the child's mother in the face and then grabbed and squeezed the mother's throat with his hands, causing her to momentarily lose consciousness.  Denny took the child from the home and placed the child in his car; the car had no car seat.  Denny then produced a handgun and pointed it at the child's mother, stating, "Bitch, I will kill you."

An Amber Alert was issued for the 5 month-old girl.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m., the suspect turned himself in to Prince George’s County authorities; the child was with him.  The child was unharmed and was reunited with her mother.

Deare Denny was transported to the Montgomery County Detention Center and is being held without bond.
