Detectives Investigate Attempted Rape and Indecent Exposure in Silver Spring

For Immediate Release: Thursday, February 26, 2015

Detectives from Montgomery County Police-Special Victims Investigation Division are investigating an indecent exposure and an attempted rape that occurred in Silver Spring late last night.

At approximately 11:15 p.m. on February 25, 3rd District Officers responded to an attempted rape that had just occurred in the 1400 block of Hampshire Court West.  The victim, a female age 20, had been walking in the area when she was approached by the suspect.  He attempted to solicit her for sex, but she refused.  The suspect pushed the victim into a wall and assaulted her.  The victim was able to push the suspect away and attempted to flee.  The suspect forced the victim to the ground and attempted to rape her.  The victim yelled and kicked the suspect off of her.  The suspect fled the area.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5’08” tall, weighing 170 pounds, and approximately in his late 20’s to early 30’s.  He has no facial hair and was last seen wearing a furry hat, a black jacket, and gray pants.  It is believed this suspect was also involved in an indecent exposure incident prior to the attempted rape.  In that incident, the suspect approached a 36 year-old female victim, attempted to solicit her for sex, and pulled down his pants, exposing his genitals to her.

Anyone with information about these crimes or suspect is urged to contact Special Victims Investigation Division at 240-773-5050.  Callers may remain anonymous.
