Police Investigate Silver Spring Homicide

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, March 17, 2015

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police-Major Crimes Division are investigating a homicide that occurred last night in Silver Spring.

On Monday, March 16 at approximately 8:25 p.m., 3rd District officers and fire/rescue personnel responded for the report of a shooting near Piney Branch Road and Dale Drive.  First responders located a conscious adult male suffering from at least one apparent gunshot wound.  He was transported to a local trauma center for treatment.  He succumbed to his wounds early this morning.  The victim is being identified as Jonathan Lopez, 24 years old, of the 3800 block of 39th Street in Brentwood, MD.




Preliminary investigation indicates that Lopez was on foot on Piney Branch Road when he was approached by a lone male suspect.  During this encounter, the suspect shot Lopez and fled on foot.  The suspect is described as a light-skin male wearing dark clothing.  Investigative efforts are ongoing.
