For Immediate Release: Tuesday, May 12, 2015

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police - Major Crimes Division continue to investigate the murders of Richard and Julianne Vilardo, found deceased in their Rockville home on Sunday, May 10.

Yesterday, May 11, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the deaths of Richard and Julianne Vilardo as homicides that were caused by sharp force injuries.

Today, investigators are confirming that Richard and Julianne Vilardo were in the Charles Town, West Virginia area on Saturday evening where they had dinner with friends. The couple came home that evening which is the last time they were known to be alive.

On Sunday, May 10 at 12:18 p.m., 1st District officers responded to a residence in the 13200 block of Ridge Drive for the report of two subjects discovered deceased. First responders located the body of Julianne Vilardo in the home at that address and located the body of Richard Vilardo just outside the rear of the home. There was trauma to the upper portion of each victim’s body.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the Vilardos had agreed to meet family during the morning of May 10. When the couple was late, family went to the home and found both victims deceased; family called police at 12:18 p.m.  Investigators now believe that entry was made into the home through a window.  The glass was not broken.  The window latch may or may not have been in use.
