For Immediate Release: Monday, June 1, 2015
Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department-Major Crimes Division are currently investigating a shooting that occurred at a shopping center in Germantown this evening as a homicide.
At approximately 7:33 p.m., the Emergency Communications Center (9-1-1) received multiple calls for a shooting that had just occurred in the parking lot in front of the Target located at 20908 N. Frederick Road in Germantown. Officers responded to the area and located the 24-year-old female victim, who had been shot. She was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The 27-year-old suspect had fled from the parking lot in a vehicle before police arrived to the scene.
Witnesses obtained a description of the suspect's vehicle, which was described as a white, older model, Ford Ranger pickup truck. The description was broadcast to all officers via the police radio. An officer located the suspect vehicle and officers then initiated their cruisers' emergency lights and sirens. When the suspect failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.
At approximately 8:12 p.m., in the area of the 15800 block of Darnestown Road (Route 28), the suspect vehicle was involved in a single-vehicle collision; officers arrested the suspect. The suspect was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries that he sustained in the collision. A handgun was recovered at the collision scene.
Major Crimes detectives believe that this shooting is domestic in nature and that the suspect and victim are girlfriend and boyfriend. Preliminary information indicates that the suspect and victim had planned to meet in the shopping center to talk.
This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call the Department at 301-279-8000 (24 hour line). Callers may remain anonymous.
