Gaithersburg Vehicle Fatal Crash and Fire Investigated

Detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit and investigators from the Fire Marshal's office are investigating a vehicle crash and vehicle fire in Gaithersburg involving the death of a male child who was a rear-seat passenger.

On Tuesday, June 16, at approximately 3:30 a.m., a passing Fire/Rescue vehicle observed a vehicle on fire off the road near the westbound lanes of Sam Eig Highway (Route 370) and Fields Road.  F/R personnel observed an adult female who was injured with the vehicle.  She told first responders that there was another person in the vehicle.  Rescuers attempted to force open the vehicle, breaking glass, and then extinguishing the fire, but were unable to remove the victim from the vehicle.

The adult female is in serious condition at a local trauma center.  Identities are being withheld at this time.

Investigators continue to investigate the facts and circumstances surrounding this event.  Police and Fire Marshals are asking witnesses or anyone with information related to this event to call 301.279.8000
