UPDATE: Driver and Victim Identified in Gaithersburg Fatal Collision

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department-Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU), the Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Montgomery County Police Department -Major Crimes Division continue to investigate a single-vehicle fatal collision that occurred yesterday morning in the Gaithersburg area.

The driver of the 2003 Toyota Corolla is being identified as Narges Shafeirad, age 33. She remains hospitalized in serious condition.

The deceased passenger is being identified as Daniel Dana, age 5, who is Shafeirad’s son.

On Tuesday, June 16, at approximately 3:30 a.m., a passing Fire/Rescue vehicle observed a vehicle on fire off the road near the westbound lanes of Sam Eig Highway (Route 370) and Fields Road.  F/R personnel observed Narges Shafeirad who was injured with the vehicle.  She told first responders that there was another person in the vehicle.  Rescuers attempted to force open the vehicle, breaking glass, and then extinguishing the fire, but were unable to remove Daniel Dana from the vehicle.
