Detectives Investigate Single-Vehicle Fatal Collision

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department-Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a single-vehicle fatal collision that occurred on Darnestown Road (Route 28) at Cattail Road.

On June 23 at approximately 8:30 p.m., the Emergency Communications Center (9-1-1) received a call for the single-vehicle collision.  Preliminary investigation has revealed that a 2003 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck was traveling east on Darnestown Road.  Storms had recently swept through the area and a tree had fallen in the roadway in the area of Darnestown Road and Cattail Road.  The pickup truck struck the downed tree.  The pickup driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver, who was the single occupant of the pickup truck, is being identified as Elmer Henry Froelich, Jr., age 79, of the 19500 block of Jerusalem Church Road in Poolesville.

Detectives continue to investigate this collision. Anyone who witnessed this collision is asked to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240-773-6620.  Callers may remain anonymous.
