For Immediate Release: Thursday, June 25, 2015

Detectives from the 4th District Investigative Section have arrested Fredi Mazariegos, age 26, of the District of Columbia, for the attempted murder of a 60-year-old man.

On June 20 at approximately 3:16 p.m., 4th District officers responded to the 2500 block of Ennalls Avenue in Wheaton for a report of a victim who had just been stabbed. The first responding officers on the scene located the victim bleeding profusely from the neck and immediately began life-saving measures to control the severe bleeding. Shortly after officers arrived to the scene, the Emergency Communications Center (9-1-1) received a call from a witness stating that he was chasing the suspect on foot in the area of Grandview Avenue. A second witness called 9-1-1 to say that he saw the suspect with a knife after the stabbing and was chasing him.

Based on the suspect description provided by these two witnesses, officers were able locate Mazariegos in the 11500 block of Grandview Avenue. Officers observed what appeared to be blood on Mazariegos’ shoes and placed him under arrest.

The victim of the stabbing was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive due to the first responding officers’ quick life-saving actions.

The Investigation revealed that the victim was standing next to his motorcycle in the 2300 block of Ennalls Avenue, attempting to put his helmet on, when he was stabbed in the neck by an unknown male (now identified as Mazariegos). Mazariegos stabbed the victim one time in the neck and fled the area.

Fredi Mazariegos has been charged with attempted 1st degree murder, attempted 2nd degree murder, and 1st degree assault. Mazariegos is currently being held without bond.
