UPDATE: Victims Identified in Chevy Chase Death Investigation

For Immediate Release: Sunday, June 28, 2015

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police – Major Crimes Division continue to investigate two possible weather-related deaths that occurred June 27 in Chevy Chase.

The victims are being identified as Crystal Leigh Puderbaugh, age 29, and Lily Elizabeth Puderbaugh, age 4, of the 8800 block of Connecticut Avenue in Chevy Chase. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has ruled the cause of death for Crystal Puderbaugh as a combination of drowning and electrocution and has ruled the cause of death for Lily Puderbaugh as electrocution. There is no evidence of foul play.

On June 27 at approximately 4:26 p.m., 2nd District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to a residence in the 8800 block of Connecticut Avenue for a report of an electrocution. Preliminary investigation revealed that Crystal Puderbaugh and Lily Puderbaugh were found unresponsive outside of the home in the stairwell leading to the basement.

Investigators found a portable sump pump in the standing water near the victims. Apparently the water was charged and an electrical surge contributed to the victims deaths. On June 27 many areas of Montgomery County experienced flooding due to the heavy rain fall throughout the day.
