Montgomery County Department of Corrections Employee Charged with Sex Offenses Against Inmate

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, July 7, 2015

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department - Special Victims Investigations Division have arrested Jereme Keith Simmons, age 32, of the 8800 block of Hunting Lane in Laurel, for having inappropriate contact with a 26-year-old female Pre-Trial Services inmate (PTSU) while he worked as a correctional officer for the Montgomery County Department of Corrections. The victim was not incarcerated but was under the supervision of the Department of Corrections to complete community service hours for a criminal charge.

On June 9, Simmons was working as a correctional officer overseeing pre-trial inmates assigned to a Department of Corrections work detail at the Department of General Services warehouse located in the 1300 block of Seven Locks Road in Rockville. At approximately 1:00 p.m., the victim asked permission to use the bathroom inside the warehouse. While the victim was in the bathroom, Simmons entered and assaulted her. The victim stated to detectives that in the bathroom, Simmons told her that if they engaged in sexual activity at a later date, he would sign off on the remaining balance of her community service hours as being completed.

Detectives from the Special Victims Investigations Division were notified of this incident on June 22. On June 25, investigators arranged for the victim to meet with Simmons at the Pre-Trial Services Unit on Ardennes Avenue in Rockville. Detectives recorded Simmons apologizing to the victim several times and telling her that he planned on having sex with her on the day of the incident.

Simmons was arrested on July 7 and was transported to the Central Processing Unit where he was charged with one count of attempted second degree rape, one count of malfeasance in office, and one count of sexual conduct between a correctional officer and an inmate. Simmons was released after posting bond.
