Camp Counselor Charged with Sex Abuse of a Minor

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department - Special Victims Investigations Division have arrested Jose Luis Casumbal Valenzuela, age 43, of the 5400 block of Connecticut Avenue in Washington, D.C., for having inappropriate contact with a 11-year-old female while he worked as a counselor at the “Holton-Arms Creative Summer” camp in Bethesda.

Between June 30 and July 3, the victim attended the “Holton-Arms Creative Summer” camp, located at 7303 River Road in Bethesda. The victim told detectives that Valenzuela, known to the children as “Jolly”, worked as a camp counselor teaching magic classes and would touch her inappropriately during the lessons. Valenzuela has been an employee and in charge of teaching magic classes at the camp since the summer of 2012.

Valenzeula was arrested on July 10 and was transported to the Central Processing Unit where he was charged with one count of third degree sex offense and one count of sex abuse of a minor. Bond information for Valenzuela is not available at this time.
