Police Continue Investigation into the Murder of Montgomery Village Resident; Detectives, Family and Friends Make Plea for Witnesses to Contact Police

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division continue to investigate the homicide of Bradley Colmes. The incident began as a physical assault in Montgomery Village on Friday June 12. The injuries he sustained during the assault later resulted in his death on June 17.

The victim, Bradley Colmes, age 60, of the 10300 block of Ridgeline Drive in Montgomery Village, died in the hospital where he was receiving treatment for the assault. The Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide.

The incident began on Friday, June 12 at approximately 10:40 p.m., when 6th District officers along with Fire and Rescue personnel responded for the report of an assault in the 10300 block of Ridgeline Drive.  Responding officers located Colmes with injuries to his head and face. He was transported to a local trauma center for treatment.

The preliminary investigation indicated that Colmes had left his home and was walking on Ridegline Drive when he was assaulted by an unknown black male. Due to statements from Colmes and others, detectives have determined that the physical assault was witnessed by a group of as many as 20 people who were described as fleeing toward the Montgomery Village Shopping Center after the assault. Detectives need witnesses to come forward to bring the person(s) responsible to justice.
