Germantown Shooting Investigated as Domestic Murder-Suicide

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, August 4, 2015

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division are investigating a double shooting as a domestic-related murder-suicide.

This afternoon at approximately 12:24 p.m., 5th District officers and Fire/Rescue personnel responded to multiple reports of a shooting at the gas station located at the corner of Germantown Road (Route 118) and N. Frederick Road (Route 355) in Germantown.  First responders located an adult female and adult male with apparent gunshot wounds. The male was deceased at the scene. The female was transported to a local trauma center where she  succumbed to her injuries. A handgun was recovered at the scene.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the male and female who were shot are believed to have been married to each other.  They arrived to the gas station with a 16-year-old female passenger who was a family member.  The 16-year-old was sent into the store to pay for gas. The suspect and victim remained in the vehicle and became involved in an argument. The argument culminated with the husband shooting the wife.

During this incident, an off-duty Montgomery County police officer in a marked cruiser was parked in a lot adjacent to the gas station.  The off-duty officer heard a shot and approached the vehicle.  The male subject then shot and killed himself. No one else was injured. The off-duty officer did not discharge his firearm.

Identities of the decedents will be released once family members have been notified.
