For Immediate Release: Wednesday, September 2, 2015

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department-Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a serious collision that occurred this morning in Aspen Hill.

At approximately 7:47 a.m., a Montgomery County Police officer in a marked police cruiser attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a red, 2014 Yamaha motorcycle that was traveling south on Connecticut Avenue north of Aspen Hill Road; the motorcycle was not displaying a license plate. The motorcycle operator did not stop and continued traveling on Connecticut Avenue before making a right-hand turn onto Aspen Hill Road. The officer turned onto Aspen Hill Road in an attempt to locate the vehicle, but could not locate it in traffic.  The officer then turned off his cruiser's emergency equipment and radioed to dispatch that the motorcycle was last seen traveling on Aspen Hill Road toward Veirs Mill Road.  The officer continued driving on Aspen Hill Road and came upon a collision involving the motorcycle and three other vehicles at the intersection of Parkland Drive.  This location is approximately one-half mile from where the officer last saw the motorcycle.

Preliminary investigation by detectives has revealed that the motorcycle was traveling on Aspen Hill Road and entered the intersection of Parkland Drive on a red signal. The motorcycle struck a 2005 Honda CR-V that was traveling north on Parkland Drive and traveling through the intersection on a green signal. The motorcycle then struck a 2004 Toyota Sienna minivan that was traveling south on Parkland Drive and was facing a green signal. The Honda CR-V also struck the Toyota Sienna minivan and a 2014 Mazda 3; the Sienna and Mazda were both traveling south on Parkland and were facing a green signal at the intersection.

The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries; he remains in critical condition. The driver of the Honda CR-V was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The motorcycle operator is being identified as Ronnie Stewart King, Jr., age 27, of the 9500 block of Beech Park Street in Capitol Heights, Maryland.  Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) records have revealed that King is not licensed to operate a motorcycle.  The driver of the Honda CR-V is being identified as Mike Ying Chu, age 47, of the 13200 block of Superior Street in Rockville. The driver of the Toyota Sienna is being identified as Ana Marcela Rodriguez, age 40, of the 14000 block of Congress Drive in Rockville. The driver of the Mazda 3 is being identified as Heather Robyn Tubman Carbone, age 32, of the 14200 block of Clayton Street in Rockville.
