Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Train in Boyds

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police-Major Crimes Division are investigating the death of a teenage male who was fatally struck by a train in Boyds.

Today, at approximately 4:46 p.m., 5th District officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel responded for the report of a pedestrian who had been struck by an Amtrak train on the tracks in the area of the Boyds Market located at 15110 Barnesville Road in Boyds.

The initial investigation has revealed that the teenage male victim was walking along the tracks with two other teenagers when, for reasons still under investigation, he went on the tracks and into the path of a northbound Amtrak train. The victim succumbed to his injuries on the scene and is being identified as John Martin DeReggi Jr., age 16, of the 20700 block of Slidell Road in Boyds.
