Detectives Investigate Single-Vehicle Fatal Collision in Darnestown

Update October 6: Victim identified in single-vehicle fatal collision in Darnestown. The victim is being identified as Donte Isaah Hamilton, age 20, of the 18700 block of Jerusalem Church Road in Poolesville.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department-Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a single-vehicle fatal collision that occurred today in Darnestown.

This morning at approximately 3:08 a.m., 1st District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to Darnestown Road between Route 107 and Bellingham Drive for the report of a single vehicle collision.

Preliminary investigation indicated that the vehicle was travelling east bound on Darnestown Road (Route 28), east of the Route 107 junction. For reasons still under investigation, the passenger vehicle left the roadway, struck a tree off the eastbound shoulder, and came to rest on its side on the westbound shoulder of Darnestown Road.   At some point during the crash, the vehicle became engulfed in flames. The adult male driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene.
