Police Search for Two Critically Missing Men with Special Needs

Update October 15:  Jeffrey Peter Ratnofsky and Jacob Whetzel have both been located safe and unharmed in Washington D.C. and were reunited with family.  Police and family thank the media and public for sharing this missing persons case.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – 6th District Investigative Section are asking for the public’s assistance in locating two critically missing men with special needs.

Jeffrey Peter Ratnofsky, age 34, of the 13100 block of Meadow View Drive in Darnestown, and Jacob Whetzel, age 44, of the 600 block of Lakeworth Drive in Gaithersburg were last seen today at 11:00 a.m. at the “Bowl America” bowling alley at 1101 Clopper Road in Gaithersburg. Both men were part of an organized field trip to the bowling alley and did not get on the bus to return home. Both men function on an 8-year-old level.

Jeffrey Ratnofsky is described as a white male, 5’7” tall, and weighing 215 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing black sweatpants, black fleece jacket and dark brown shoes.

Jacob Whetzel is described as a white male, 5’04” tall, with a medium build. He has gray hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a gray and blue stripped t-shirt, and tennis shoes.

Police and family are concerned for their well-being and physical welfare. Both are known to frequent the IHOP and “Golden Bull” restaurant in Gaithersburg, and Metro stations.

Anyone who has information regarding the whereabouts of Jeffrey Peter Ratnofsky or Jacob Whetzel is asked to immediately call the Montgomery County Police Department at 301-279-8000 or dial 9-1-1.
