Detectives Investigate Homicide in Montgomery Village

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Major Crimes Division are investigating the homicide of a 21-year-old victim that occurred on October 15 in Montgomery Village.

At approximately 5:49 p.m., 6th District officers and Montgomery County Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the area behind 18312 Contour Road for the report of a shooting. The victim, then identified as DeAndre Smith but also known as Zella Ziona, age 21, of an unconfirmed address in Montgomery Village was located in an alley that separates the Montgomery Village Plaza and the Montgomery Village Crossing shopping centers. She was suffering from an apparent gun shot wound to her body and was transported to an area hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The suspect(s) remains outstanding.

As part of this investigation, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) in Baltimore will conduct an autopsy.
