Single Vehicle Fatal Collision in Rockville Investigated

For Immediate Release: Saturday, October 17, 2015

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police - Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a single-vehicle fatal collision that occurred in Rockville early this morning.

At approximately 12:05 a.m., 4^th District officers were responding to a call for service when they observed a vehicle traveling south on Georgia Avenue approaching Maryland Route 200 or the Inter-County Connector (ICC).  The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and did not have the headlights on.  Before officers could take action, the vehicle, for reasons still under investigation, left the road and struck a traffic pole at Georgia Avenue and the ICC.

Officers summonsed Fire/Rescue personnel who arrived and transported the adult female driver to Suburban Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.  She is being identified as Penelope Ann Garland, 68 years old, of the 3500 block of Daisy Lane in Woodbine.
