Detectives from Montgomery County Police Department – 5th District Investigative Section have charged two 18-year-old men with theft and firearm offenses after they stole property, to include two handguns, from a vehicle assigned to a federal agent.
On October 22 at 6:30 a.m., officers from the 5th District responded to a residence in the 22300 block of Sweetspire Drive in Clarksburg for the report of a theft from a vehicle. The investigation revealed that a backpack containing two handguns, that were issued to the federal agent, were stolen from a vehicle used by him.
Later that morning, at approximately 11:42 a.m., detectives were in the area of the 12100 block of Pine Pond Place in Clarksburg and witnessed a drug transaction involving a male subject. Detectives arrested
Jarvis Johnson, age 18, of an unconfirmed address, for the drug transaction and located a handgun in his possession. The handgun was determined to have been stolen from the vehicle on Sweetspire Drive.
Johnson was transported to the Central Processing Unit and charged with possession of a firearm by a minor, carrying a handgun on his person, theft: $1,000 to under $10,000, theft less than $100, conspiracy to commit theft: $1,000 to $10,000, and rogue and vagabond. At this time, Johnson is being held on a $10,000 bond.
Further investigation by detectives identified
Tavis Lee Clore, age 18, of an unconfirmed address on Pine Pond Drive in Clarksburg, as an additional suspect in the theft from vehicle crime. On October 23 at approximately 3:30 p.m., detectives arrested Clore in the 12100 block of Pine Pond Drive. Further investigation by detectives led to the recovery of the second stolen handgun in a heavily wooded area off of Prices Distillery Road in Clarksburg.
Clore was transported to the Central Processing Unit and charged with possession of a firearm by a minor, carrying a handgun on his person, theft: $1,000 to under $10,000, theft less than $100, conspiracy to commit theft: $1,000 to $10,000, and rogue and vagabond.
