Police Seek Public’s Help to Identify Suspects in Attempted Carjacking in Aspen Hill

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police – Major Crimes Division are asking the public for help to identify two suspects responsible for an attempted armed carjacking of a Montgomery County employee in Aspen Hill.

This morning at approximately 6:30 a.m., 4th District officers responded to the area of the 4800 block of Aspen Hill Road (near the intersection of Iris Street) for the report of an attempted armed carjacking.

The Investigation revealed that the 41-year-old Montgomery County Police Automated Traffic Enforcement Unit employee was operating a county owned van. The van is equipped with speed detection cameras. The victim was preparing to monitor traffic on Aspen Hill Road when the two suspects, one of whom was armed with a handgun, approached him at the side of the van. The first suspect pointed the handgun at the victim and demanded the keys to the van. Both suspects then assaulted the victim, knocking him to the ground. The two suspects fled from the area without taking the vehicle or any property. The victim was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Both suspects were male. The first suspect is described as a black male, 5’9” to 5’10’ tall, and weighing between 160 and 170 pounds. He was wearing a dark hoodie over his face and was armed with a handgun. There is no further description of the second male suspect.
