Man Arrested For Possession of a Handgun Outside of The Fillmore Silver Spring

For Immediate Release: Wednesday, November 25, 2015

Officers from the 3rd District have arrested Dominique Bernard Saunders, age 23, of the 5500 block of Karen Elaine Drive in New Carrollton, for possession of a stolen handgun.

On November 22 at approximately 10:30 p.m., an off-duty Montgomery County Police officer was working with security personnel at the The Fillmore Silver Spring located at 8656 Colesville Road when an employee approached the officer saying that he overheard a male subject, later identified as Saunders, planning to shoot someone. The off-duty officer was told that the male subject was wearing a red jumpsuit and a red hat and was asked to leave The Fillmore Silver Spring earlier that evening. The off-duty officer also learned that an employee watched the subject retrieve a handgun from a vehicle that had stopped outside of the building.  The off-duty officer called for assistance from on-duty police units.

Responding officers found a male subject matching Saunders’ description walking in an alley behind the Fillmore. Officers ordered Saunders to stop but he refused to comply and continued walking away from the officers. Saunders opened the lid to a dumpster and threw a silver object inside the dumpster and then complied with the officers’ orders to stop.

Officers checked the dumpster and found a loaded handgun inside and determined that the handgun was reported stolen from Suffolk, Virginia. Officers also determined that Saunders was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a previous felony conviction.

Saunders was transported to the Central Processing Unit where he was charged with handgun offenses and theft: less than $1,000. He is currently being held on a $15,000 bond.
