Update: Rockville Bicycle Collision Now Fatal

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department-Collision Reconstruction Unit continue to investigate a collision involving a bicycle and a vehicle that occurred Saturday evening in Rockville.  The bicyclist, Samuel Vigil, 37 years old, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, December 13 at 6:50 p.m.

On Saturday, December 12 at approximately 6:55 p.m., 1st District and Rockville City officers, in addition to Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the westbound lanes of E. Gude Drive at Southlawn Lane for a collision involving a bicycle and a passenger vehicle.

Preliminary investigation has indicated that Samuel Vigil, 37 years old, of the 700 block of Lenmore Avenue in Rockville, was traveling south on a bicycle, in the area of the crosswalk, across the westbound lanes of E. Gude Drive.  A black 2004 Lexus RX330, was traveling west on E. Gude Drive when the bicycle Vigil was riding struck the Lexus while Vigil was crossing in the traffic lanes.  Investigation indicates that Vigil was facing a red signal and was crossing against the pedestrian indicator.  Vigil was transported to Suburban Hospital in critical condition and succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.

The driver of the Lexus is identified as Monica Min, 23 years old, of Gaithersburg.  Min was taken to Shady Grove Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
