White Oak Chase Leads to Assault and Traffic Charges for Two Men

For Immediate Release: Friday, January 1, 2016

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department - 3rd District Investigative Section have charged Floyd Wayne Thompson, age 30, of the 2500 block of Dennis Avenue in Silver Spring with first-degree assault.

On December 31 at approximately 3:46 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to the 11000 block of New Hampshire Avenue for the report of one vehicle chasing another vehicle with shots possibly being fired. Officers located both vehicles, a black Honda Accord and a Black Dodge Charger, and their occupants in the parking lot of the Office Depot located at 11130 New Hampshire Avenue.

Further investigation by detectives revealed that the parties involved knew each other and had agreed to meet for a drug transaction that resulted in a dispute. According to the parties, this incident began in Prince George’s County. After the exchange of cash and drugs, the driver of the Accord, now identified as Thompson, began chasing the driver of the Charger, identified as Terrell Owens, age 27. Witnesses told investigators that during part of the chase that ended in Montgomery County, Thompson pointed a handgun at Owens after both vehicles had stopped in traffic on New Hampshire Avenue.

At one point, Owens drove his car northbound in the southbound lanes of New Hampshire Avenue and struck three vehicles. Responding officers arrived in the area and located Owens stopped in the Office Depot parking lot. Thompson also stopped in the parking lot of the Office Depot as officers were speaking with Owens.

Owens was issued traffic citations for his actions that caused the collisions and was released. Thompson was transported to the Central Processing Unit and charged with one count of first-degree assault. Bond information for Thompson is not available at this time.
