Police Investigate Serious Pedestrian Collision on East Randolph Road

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a serious collision involving a pedestrian that occurred this morning on East Randolph Road.

This morning at approximately 7:56 a.m., 3rd District officers and Fire & Rescue personnel responded to the area of E. Randolph Road and Tourmaline Court for the report of a pedestrian that had been struck by two vehicles.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the 26-year-old female pedestrian was crossing E. Randolph Road in the area of Tourmaline Court in a southbound direction. The pedestrian was traveling in the area of a marked crosswalk. A 2005 Ford Taurus and a 2005 Honda Pilot were traveling eastbound on E. Randolph Road when, for reasons still under investigation, both vehicles collided with the pedestrian. The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Ford Taurus was identified as Amy Gintyryan Alexander, age 55, of the 5300 block of Trailway drive in Rockville. Alexander was not injured in the collision.

The driver of the Honda Pilot was identified as Mathews Mutale, age 49, of the 1200 block of E. Randolph Road in Silver Spring. Mutale was not injured in the collision.

The pedestrian’s identity will be released once her family is notified.
