Detectives Arrest Suspect for 2015 Germantown Home Invasion Robbery

For Immediate Release: Monday, March 7, 2016

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department - Major Crimes Division have arrested Kevin Darnell Carroll, age 44, of the 800 block of N. Eutaw Street in Baltimore, and have charged him with committing a home invasion robbery in Germantown.

On November 17, 2015, at approximately 8:53 p.m., 1st District officers responded to a residence in the 14900 block of Kelley Farm Drive in Germantown for the report of a home invasion robbery. The investigation determined that a 21-year-old male victim and a 14-year-old female victim were entering the home through the garage when they were approached by two suspects wearing ski masks and armed with handguns. The suspects bound both victims in the garage with zip ties and placed duct tape over the mouth of the female victim. One suspect led the male victim through the home, asking where money was kept. The suspects obtained cash and property from the home and fled the area. The victims were able to free themselves from the zip ties and call 9-1-1.

Further investigation by detectives revealed that the suspects had placed a GPS tracking device on a vehicle owned by the residents of the home on Kelley Farm Drive. The suspects then used information provided by the tracking device to determine the residents’ address in order to commit the home invasion robbery.

Investigators recovered DNA evidence from the duct tape, zip ties, and the GPS tracking device and entered the DNA into a national database for analysis. Montgomery County Police were notified that the DNA recovered from the evidence belonged to Kevin Darnell Carroll.

On February 29, 2016, detectives obtained a warrant for Carroll’s arrest, charging him with one count of home invasion, one count of armed robbery, two counts of first-degree assault, one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and one county of theft: $1,000 to under $10,000.

Carroll was arrested on March 1, 2016 at his home on the strength of the Montgomery County arrest warrant and transported to the Central Processing Unit. Carroll was released on March 2, 2016, after posting a $125,000 bond.

On March 2, 2016, detectives executed a search warrant at Carroll’s residence in Baltimore and recovered a ski mask and handgun that they believe were used during this home invasion robbery.

Detectives continue to investigate this home invasion robbery and are asking anyone with information regarding the identity of the second suspect, described only as a black male, to contact Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or leave a Crime Solvers tip here.
