Detectives Charge Man Who Robbed Three Banks in Less Than 30 Minutes

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department Major Crimes Division have charged Leroy Earl Daley, age 45, of the 8000 block of Allendale Drive in Landover, with committing three bank robberies yesterday in Chevy Chase and Kensington.

On March 10, officers from the 2^nd and 4^th Districts responded to the report of three armed bank robberies in close proximity to each other and all occurring in a 25-minute time span.

• At approximately 11:10 a.m., 2^nd District officers responded to the Suntrust Bank located at 8510 Connecticut Avenue in Chevy Chase.

• At approximately 11:25 a.m., 2^nd District officers responded to the Capital One Bank located at 10821 Connecticut Avenue in Kensington.

• At approximately 11:35 a.m., 4^th District officers responded to the BB&T Bank located at 2909 University Boulevard W. in Kensington.

In the first two bank robberies, Daley entered the bank and passed a note demanding money. Daley implied he had a weapon, obtained an undisclosed amount of currency, and fled from the banks.  In the last bank robbery, Daley entered the bank, approached a teller, and passed a note demanding money.  Daley argued with the teller and fled from the bank without obtaining any cash.

Montgomery County detectives coordinated and shared information with Prince George’s County Police Department investigators. Later that day, Prince George’s County officers located and arrested Daley in their jurisdiction. Daley is believed to have committed a total of nine bank robberies in the two jurisdiction (Prince George’s County Police Department’s press release).

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Daley, charging him with two counts of armed bank robbery and one count of strong-armed bank robbery.  Daley is currently incarcerated in Prince George’s County on related charges placed by Prince George’s County Police.
