Detectives Investigate Serious Collision in Damascus

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department - Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a serious collision that occurred this afternoon in Damascus.

Today at approximately 1:41 p.m., 5th District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to Ridge Road near Gue Road for the report of a serious collision involving three vehicles.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a 1994 GMC Sonoma was traveling northbound on Ridge Road when for reasons still under investigation, the Sonoma crossed the center line and collided with a 2015 Ford F-450 which was travelling southbound on Ridge Road.  The Sonoma was then struck by a 2015 tractor trailer that was travelling northbound on Ridge Road.

The driver of the Sonoma, identified as Jason Allen Diggs, age 35, of the 200 block of Hope Circle in Frederick, was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. Diggs remains in serious condition.

The driver of the F-450, identified as Matthew Vincent Phelan, age 39,  of the 8100 block of Brink Road in Gaithersburg, was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Phelan has subsequently been released from the hospital.

The driver of the tractor trailer, identified as Eric Santiago, age 24, of the 1900 block of East Tioga Street in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, was not injured.
