Montgomery County Department of Corrections Employee Charged with Sex Offenses Against Inmate

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Special Victims Investigations Division have criminally charged Omotunde Rauf Sanusi, age 40, of the 11200 block of Evans Trail in Beltsville, for having inappropriate contact with a 23-year-old female inmate while he worked as a correctional officer for the Montgomery County Department of Corrections.

On September 28, 2015 at approximately 1:00 p.m., officers from the 1^st District responded to the Montgomery County Detention Center located at 1307 Seven Locks Road in Rockville. Correctional officials had called police to report that a female inmate stated a male correctional employee had sexually assaulted her.

Preliminary investigation by detectives confirmed that Sanusi was working as a correctional officer at the Detention Center in Rockville and entered the victim’s cell to facilitate her transport to court.  The inmate stated that while Sanusi was in her cell, he sexually assaulted her.  Investigators recovered DNA evidence from the victim’s person and submitted that evidence for analysis.  Detectives also obtained a search warrant to collect a sample of the suspect’s DNA.

During the investigation, correctional officials ensured that Sanusi had no contact with inmates.

Earlier this month, detectives were notified that the DNA evidence collected from the victim matched Sanusi’s DNA.  On April 11, 2016, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Sanusi, charging him with one count of third-degree sex offense, one count of second-degree assault, one count of malfeasance in office, and one count of sexual conduct between a correctional officer and an inmate.

This morning, detectives arrested Sanusi at the Montgomery County Detention Center on the strength of the arrest warrant.  Sanusi received a $150,000 bond.
