For Immediate Release: Friday, August 5, 2016

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – 4th District Investigative Section have charged Elizabeth Johnson, age 37, of the 11400 block of Cherry Hill Road in Beltsville, with theft, after she stole jewelry from a patient’s home.  Detectives believe Johnson may be responsible for committing additional thefts in homes where she worked as a home health care worker.

On March 21, 4th District officers responded to a residence in the 3000 block of S. Leisure World Boulevard in the Norbeck area for the report of a theft.  The investigation revealed that on March 10, Johnson was assigned to work at the 88-year-old female victim’s home as a home health care worker while the victim recuperated from surgery.  On March 12, the victim discovered several items of jewelry missing from her home.

Detectives spoke to representatives of the company that employed Johnson and learned that Johnson was recently fired.  The representatives told investigators that they received a report of missing jewelry by a client that Johnson provided home health care services to in December, 2015.  Investigators then learned that Johnson left the country after being fired.

On June 8, Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Johnson charging her with one count of Theft $10,000 to under $100,000.

On August 2, Johnson was arrested at her residence on the strength of the arrest warrant.  She was released after posting a $1,000 bond.

Detectives are concerned that Johnson may have committed additional thefts while she was providing home health care services.  Anyone who believes that he/she was a victim or has any information about a victim is urged to call the 4th District Investigative Section at 240-773-5531.
