Fatal Collision Involving a Motorcycle Investigated

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department - Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal collision involving a motorcyclist and a rental truck that occurred last night on University Boulevard and Merrimac Drive.

On Saturday, August 20 at approximately 10:37 p.m. 3rd District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to University Boulevard and Merrimac Drive for the report of a serious collision.  First responders located a black, 1999 Honda motorcycle that had been involved in a crash with a 2011 GMC Savana rental truck.  The adult male operator of the motorcycle was located deceased at the scene.  He had succumbed to his injuries suffered during the collision.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the Honda motorcycle was traveling east on University Boulevard and the GMC truck was traveling south on Merrimac Drive.  As the truck crossed University Boulevard, the truck and the motorcycle collided.

The operator of the motorcycle is identified as Jose Armando Lemus, 23 years old, of the 2300 block of Apache Street in Hyattsville.  The driver of the GMC Savana is identified as Justin Magnus, 28 ye ars old, of the 300 block of Read Avenue in Tuckahoe, NY.  He did not report any injuries.
