Update: Burtonsville Shooting Victim Identified/Two Subjects Arrested on Drug Charges

Detectives with the Montgomery County Police - Major Crimes Division continue to  investigate a homicide that occurred last night at a residence in the 4500 block of Sandy Spring Road in Burtonsville.

On Tuesday, August 23, at approximately 10:23 p.m., 3rd District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the 4500 block of Sandy Spring Road (Route 198) for the report of an assault.  First responders located the victim inside of the home.  The victim, now being identified as 22-year-old Syed Asad Hassan, is a resident of the home.  Hassan was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his upper body.  He was transported to a local trauma center where he succumbed to his injuries.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for the Sandy Spring Road home early this morning.  During the service of that search warrant, a quantity of marijuana indicative of distribution was located.  Jason A. Berrios, 20 years old, of the Sandy Spring Road residence, and Tevon Davis, 19 years old, of the 11400 block of Cherry Hill Road have been charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana.  Berrios is being held on a $250,000 bond.  Davis is being held on a $5,000 bond.  Bond review for both defendants is scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, August 25, at 1:00 p.m. in Rockville District Court.  Investigators have determined that both Berrios and Davis were in the Sandy Spring Road residence at the time of the shooting.

At this time, investigators have not identified a suspect(s) in the homicide of Syed Hassan.  This investigation is ongoing.  Anyone with information regarding this homicide is asked to call the Major Crimes Division at 240.773.5070.  For those who wish to remain anonymous, Crime Solvers is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for any information that leads to the arrest of the suspect(s).
