Armed Carjacking Leads to Barricade; Suspect in Custody

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, September 27, 2016

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Major Crimes Division are investigating an armed carjacking that occurred this afternoon in Bethesda.  The carjacking resulted in a police pursuit with the carjacked vehicle and a barricade situation in a residential neighborhood after the carjacking suspect entered a home and refused to come out.

On Tuesday, September 27 at approximately 2:39 p.m., 2nd District officers responded to the 7200 block of Honeywell Lane for the report of an armed carjacking.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the adult female victim was in her vehicle on Honeywell Lane when she was approached by the male suspect.  The suspect displayed a handgun, entered the backseat of the vehicle, and told the victim to drive.  The victim, who was not injured in the carjacking, fled from her vehicle and flagged down another motorist for help.   The suspect fled from the scene in the victim’s car (a 2010 black BMW) with Maryland tags.

The motorist called the Emergency Communication Center (ECC) saying that he was following the carjacked vehicle.  The motorist lost sight of the vehicle, however, a trooper from the Maryland State Police was in the area and located the vehicle on Falls Road.  Montgomery County Police officers responded to assist the trooper.

A pursuit was initiated when officers attempted to stop the BMW and the suspect refused to stop.  As the suspect approached Tuckerman Lane the BMW left the roadway for reasons still under investigation, traveled into a tree line and stopped.

After the collision, the suspect fled from the vehicle on foot into a nearby neighborhood on Frost Valley Way.  The suspect climbed onto the deck of a residence and attempted to gain entry into the home.  The female homeowner observed the suspect trying to gain entry into the home through a sliding glass door and she was able to lock the glass door before he could get it.  The suspect gained entry into the home through an open window adjacent to the sliding glass door.  The homeowner fled from the house once the suspect gained entry into the home.  The homeowner flagged down officers that were pursuing the suspect on foot and told them that the suspect was now in her home.

The suspect refused to exit the residence and officers requested that the Emergency Response Team (ERT), comprised of tactical and negotiation officers, respond to assist at the home.

At approximately 8:33 p.m., the suspect, identified as Perry Marcel Bryant, age 46, of an unconfirmed address, was taken in to custody when ERT officers located him inside the residence.

Bryant was transported to the Central Processing Unit (CPU) where he was charged with one count of armed carjacking, one count of attempted kidnapping, and one count of home invasion.  Bond information is not available at this time.
