Detectives Investigate Serious Pedestrian Collision in Rockville

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a serious collision involving a pedestrian that occurred this evening in the Rockville.

Today, at approximately 5:41 p.m., 1st District officers, Rockville City officers, and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Chapman Avenue and Bouic Avenue for the report of a serious collision.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that a 2013 Toyota Corolla, driven by Katharine Cowgill Minker, age 57, of the 13400 block of Tangier Place in Rockville, was traveling north on Chapman Avenue.  A pedestrian, identified as Esther Erestain Contreras, age 63, of the 1100 block of Beatrice Court in Fort Washington, was crossing Chapman Avenue in an eastern direction in the area of the marked crosswalk at Bouic Avenue when she was struck by the Toyota.

Contreras was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.  Minker was not injured in the collision.
