Sobriety Checkpoint Tonight; Choose a Sober Driver

During the holiday season, there are many celebrations where people choose to drink alcohol.  The Montgomery County Police Department is again reminding motorists to have a plan, drive responsibly, and choose a sober driver.

Tonight, December 16, officers from the Montgomery County Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Maryland State Police, Gaithersburg Police Department, Maryland Transportation Authority Police, and Maryland Natural Resources Police will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint.  Tonight’s sobriety checkpoint will also be the first time that the Maryland State Police Mobile Breath Alcohol Testing Truck is utilized to assist law enforcement officers test, verify, and arrest drunk drivers at a DUI checkpoint.

This enforcement is a component of the Department’s continuing effort to curb impaired driving and underage drinking.  In addition to the checkpoint, Montgomery County Police Alcohol Holiday Task Force officer will be patrolling roadways tonight and will be devoting their full time and attention to detecting alcohol-related offenses.

The exact location of the checkpoint will not be disclosed in advance.
