Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Train in Germantown

Update - January 10, 2017: The pedestrian is identified as Nevett Hugh Shacklett, age 59, of an unconfirmed address.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Major Crimes Division are investigating the death of an adult male who was fatally struck by a train this evening in Germantown.

On Saturday, December 31 at approximately 9:39 p.m., 5th District officers and Fire and Rescue personnel responded for the report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a MARC commuter train on the tracks in the area of the Germantown Marc train station located at 19311 Mateny Hill Road.

The initial investigation has revealed that the victim was in the area of the tracks when, for reasons still under investigation, he was struck by a westbound MARC commuter train.  The victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.  The victim’s identity will be released once family notifications have been made.
