For Immediate Release: Wednesday, January 11, 2017
Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Major Crimes Division have arrested Angelo Lamont Jackson, age 17, of Hawk Run Terrace in Montgomery Village, for the
homicides of two victims that occurred yesterday at the Westfield Wheaton mall. Jackson is being charged as an adult with two counts of first-degree murder.
On Tuesday, January 10 at approximately 3:17 p.m., the Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a 9-1-1 call for an assault and possible stabbings that had just occurred inside of the Westfield Wheaton mall located at 11160 Veirs Mill Road in Wheaton. Officers from the 4th District and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the mall and located two males on the lower level of the mall suffering from apparent stab wounds. Both victims were transported to area hospitals with life-threatening injuries and succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.
One of the victims has been identified as Angel Alfredo Gomez-Pineda, age 24 *, of Silver Spring. The second victim has been identified as Kevin Siloe Moya Cruz, age 22, of Wheaton.
During this investigation, detectives spoke with witnesses to the assault and reviewed mall video surveillance. Mall video shows a black male, armed with a knife, stabbing one victim and then while still armed, pursuing the second victim. Detectives disseminated a still photograph of the suspect to County police officers. Multiple officers were able to identify the suspect as Jackson from having prior contact with him.
Mall video surveillance also captured the suspect (Jackson) and the two victims engaging in a physical altercation in the lower level of the mall a short time before the stabbings occurred. This altercation was broken up by mall patrons.
Investigators obtained a warrant for Jackson’s arrest shortly after midnight on today’s date (January 11). Jackson was arrested this afternoon as he exited his Montgomery Village residence. He was transported to the Central Processing Unit and is being held without bond.
Investigators continue to work to confirm a motive for the stabbings.
