Suspects Open Store Credit Card Accounts in Victims’ Names

For Immediate Release: Thursday, January 12, 2017

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – Financial Crimes Section are asking for the public’s help to identify three suspects who used information from five different victims to fraudulently open Target store credit cards in the victims’ names.  The suspects opened these accounts in person at the Laurel and Silver Spring Target locations and then used the cards to fraudulently purchase items.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. on January 4, the three suspects used victim information to open a store credit card account at the Target store located at 3343 Corridor Marketplace in Laurel.  At approximately 1:40 p.m. that afternoon, the same suspects opened credit card accounts in the remaining victims’ names at the Target store located at 12000 Cherry Hill Road in Silver Spring.

Detectives continue to investigate how these suspects obtained the information necessary to open these store credit cards in the victims’ names.

Anyone with information regarding these suspects is asked to call the Financial Crimes Section at 240-773-6330.  Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).  Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest in this case.
