Kensington Serious Collision Investigated

Detectives with the Montgomery County Police - Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a serious personal injury collision that occurred yesterday (February 11) in Kensington.

Yesterday at approximately 5:25 p.m., officers from the 4th District and Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Connecticut Avenue and Denfeld Avenue for the report of a personal injury collision. Upon arrival first responders observed a black Volvo S80 and a silver Chevrolet Camaro in the intersection; the two vehicles had been involved in a crash.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the Camaro was traveling north on Connecticut Avenue approaching Denfeld Avenue.  At the same time, the Volvo S80 was attempting to turn left onto Denfeld Avenue from the southbound turn lane on Connecticut Avenue.  The two vehicles collided leaving both drivers injured.

The driver of the Volvo is being identified as Carlos Enrique Hernandez, 64 years old, of Heathfield Court in Rockville.  He was transported to Suburban Hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition.  The driver of the Chevrolet is being identified as Miguel Angel Ramirez, 23 years old, of the 2400 block of Lyttonsville Road in Silver Spring.  He was also transported to Suburban Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
